It has been 30 years after the first Toy Story film debuted, launching the animation giant as a leading animation studio and introducing viewers to iconic characters like the cowboy doll (Tom Hanks) and Buzz Lightyear (the voice talent), who are now household names.
Coming in 2026, the next chapter is set to arrive. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 appeared this week, offering a brief look into the storyline but keeping fans wondering how it will resolve the conclusion of Toy Story 4.
In the teaser reveals Bonnie — who inherited the toy collection when he left for college — getting a brand new plaything, one that alarms the familiar toy group. She acquires her first tablet computer, and she is excited about it.
Theoretically, the amphibian-inspired device will animate just like the rest of her playthings. Still, the characters seem to view it as a danger coming to replace them, which it probably is.
One thing the teaser avoids is why the sheriff is back with his companions in the child's bedroom. The end of Toy Story 4 depicted him embark on a new adventure with Bo Peep (the actress), traveling with a fair and helping prize toys locate loving owners.
Surely, the filmmakers will address the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the film. Witnessing him show up in Bonnie's room unexpectedly is somewhat puzzling, however. It also makes us wonder whether Bo Peep will have returned with him. And where is Duke Caboom (the star)?
At the very least, some aspects are continuing from the earlier movie. The last thing the cowboy did before departing for his new life was pass his symbol of authority to Jessie (the voice actor), leaving her in charge of the toy domain. In the teaser shows the insignia attached to her shirt.
It is hoped she is remains the key figure among the toys.
